Our History

Engineering the future of textiles through nearly 200 years of relentless innovation.

1828 The Industrial Dawn

Production began at the Imperial Private Mechanical Spinning Mill in Ajdovščina, marking the start of a long tradition of textile excellence. Equipped with 'Mule Jenny' self-actuators, we transitioned from manual labor to early automation. While early machines still required hand operation, Tekstina became a pioneer by adopting these groundbreaking innovations to push the boundaries of production

1839 The Pinnacle of Progress

We replaced the traditional waterwheel with the newly developed Fourneyron turbine, engineered in Paris. Invented just two years prior, this horizontal design represented the absolute pinnacle of technological progress. Reaching an unprecedented 2,300 RPM and generating 60 horsepower, this cutting-edge technology dramatically boosted our capacity, establishing our foundation as visionaries in textile engineering and manufacturing.

1850 The Steam Revolution

While our water turbine was successful, it tethered production to the riverbank and seasonal fluctuations. The introduction of the steam engine liberated the factory from these geographical constraints, providing a constant, reliable energy source. Recognizing steam power as a driving force of the Industrial Revolution, Tekstina rapidly harnessed its potential to ensure continuous, uninterrupted manufacturing excellence.

1945 Resilience and Revival

Post-WWII, production briefly ceased as our facilities were utilized as warehouses and barracks. Despite these challenges, Tekstina’s culture of responsibility and adaptability prevailed. We overcame historical odds and restarted full textile production in 1948, proving our enduring resilience and strength.

1960 A Modern Era

After the original mill was lost to fire, Tekstina experienced a period of rapid growth in production, sales, and workforce. To meet surging demand, we constructed a state-of-the-art spinning mill facility in 1960. This monumental expansion marked the dawn of a new era, officially transforming Tekstina into a modern, advanced fabric manufacturer dedicated to high-quality weaving.

2015 Mastering Precision Printing

We take immense pride in our investment in advanced printing technology. Through rigorous optimization, our agile team successfully calibrated the exact roller pressure required for flawless color application. This dedication to knowledge and expertise allows us to produce industry-leading prints that set the highest standards for durability, quality, and pinpoint precision.

2021 Digital Innovation:

Our printing technology is continuously upgraded to integrate the latest industry innovations. A centerpiece of our Tiska program is the new digital fabric printer, ensuring exceptional uniformity in complex patterns. This versatile system utilizes tailored inks to deliver high-quality results on fabrics up to 10 mm thick, merging advanced technology with future fabrics.

2026 Space The Final Frontier

In 2026, Tekstina leads through three strategic pillars: Fashion, Tech, and Tiska. We integrate sustainable solutions to protect lives and move the boundaries of design. Our innovation labs are now engineering breakthrough, space-grade materials for extreme environments. With full integrated vertical production on site — R&D, laboratory, weaving mill, fabric preparation and finishing, piece and yarn dyeing, printing facilities, and control inspection.
